Cactus Vision is all about the Indian Spurge Tree, also known as the Euphorbia Neriifolia.
The Euphorbia Neriifolia can slowly grow into a shrub or small tree-like structure if left unattended in the ground. This branching Euphorbia grows 10cm long leaves from areas of new growth and small spines from its 6-15cm thick stems. Like most Euphorbia plants, the Euphorbia Neriifolia displays small yellow blooms throughout early spring. Although Cactus Vision does not recommend consumption, it finds it fascinating that all parts of this plant are widely used in traditional medicine across Asia and Central America. In India, this species is also used in Ayurvedic medicine. The Euphorbia Genus contains close to 2,200 species, making it the second-largest genus of plants in the world.
Cactus Vision favours this plant to soften balcony pot clusters, as their shrub-like leaves provide gorgeous foliage. The Euphorbia Neriifolia also makes for a lush statement in indoor spaces that receive a lot of direct sunlight. Just be mindful to watch for frost, these plants don’t like to be cold. This Euphorbia prefers open (well-ventilated) areas and can tolerate extreme heat. Although rare, the Euphorbia Neriifolia can become a victim of mealybug, so watch leaves for outbreaks and Cactus Vision suggests seasonal treatment to minimize the risk of attacks. Due to its protective latex sap, this genus is deer, possum, and kangaroo resistant. So, this plant not only adds beauty to your space but also keeps pesky animals at bay!
