South Australian Short Spine

ORIGIN
A cultivated clone of Trichocereus terscheckii, commonly known as South Australian Short Spine. The species is native to north-western Argentina and nearby Andean regions.

WATER
Water when soil is almost completely dry during warm active growth. Keep dry in winter, especially in cool weather. Must have excellent drainage.

OUTDOORS
Full sun to bright sun. Best in a warm, open position with free-draining soil. Excellent as a large feature cactus in pots or dry gardens.

INDOORS
Not ideal long term, but possible while young in very bright light only. Best outdoors or in a greenhouse-style position.

FROST TOLERANT
Moderate to high tolerance once established, but protect from heavy frost and prolonged cold wet conditions.

GROWTH RATE
Slow to moderate. Forms a thick, columnar cactus with chunky ribs and noticeably shorter spines than typical terscheckii forms.

FLOWERS
Large bouquet of white cactus flowers once mature, usually appearing from the upper stems during warm weather.
